Before filter coffee was a category, it was just what our grandmothers did. Milk still warm from the cow. Not yet, and we won't pretend otherwise. Re-branding a retrofitted appliance means it doesn't inherit the base unit's ISI listing — we're filing our own certification (BIS Scheme-I) in parallel with this pilot, and we won't ship for retail sale until it's filed or an approved interim structure is in place.
We stop the product and refund every reservation in full. We won't quietly pivot into a commodity smart plug and call it the same thing — see "What we're proving" above.
A smart plug can replicate scheduling on a continuous-brew program — it genuinely can, and we're not pretending otherwise. It can't replicate the pulse-extraction profile: consumer smart-plug relays aren't built for ~15–20 on/off transitions per brew, plug apps don't support arbitrary custom timing sequences, and a plug has no visibility into how the brew is actually going. KaapiOS's solid-state controller switches at the AC zero-crossing and can be tuned from field data; a plug can only blast a blind, pre-scripted timer.
After the blind taste-test pilot clears and certification is filed. We'll email founding reservations with a real date as soon as the pilot result is in — we'd rather tell you it's later than promised than ship early and walk it back.
